GCCF Meeting October 2011
Posted by Val Spragg on 10-Nov-2011
The following report has been compiled by Steve Parkin our Delegate, Steve welcomes comments or concerns relating to GCCF matters. The GCCF Guild of Judges and Stewards are compiling all the comment of Judges and exhibitors, on the question of Judges Reports. They will then present recommendations to the Board (formerly Exec). These will then come to Council. An Open meeting to discuss the whole subject of Classes and the recent changes and the further proposals is to be arranged in 2012. The IT replacement programme has begun so we will soon be asked for the loan we pledged. We have a new probationer Judge of Abyssinians, Steven Morris. I am sure all exhibitors will support Steve, as it will be good to have another breeder-judge. The Russian and Abyssinian Cat Club of Scotland have been accepted as an affiliated Club. The Australian Mist has been accepted as a breed. Abyssinians 23,23a 23b 23c 23d 23e have been listed as an outcross for this breed. (All offspring to be registered as Australian Mist Variants) Controversially the following item was included at the meeting: The Board sub-committee has changed the grouping that it proposes to split the Foreign Grand’s into. They originally proposed a grouping of Russian, Abys, Korats and Singapuras. This was agreed by us at the AGM the ACC RACCS and the Abyssinian BAC all agreed that we were happy with this. (So were the Russian BBA and the Russian BAC.)`0 They are now proposing Abyssinian Egyptian Mau Ocicat and Singapura with Ocicat Classic and Australian Mist to come. The Ocicat Classic is to be treated as a separate breed. This proposal it is suggested will be voted on at the Feb Council Meeting, denying all the Aby clubs a chance to discuss this at our AGMs. This new proposal does mean that there will be a greater than 60% increase in the number of Judges who could judge Abys in the Grand but who are not on the Abyssinian List and cannot give CCs/PCs to Abys. There will also be no need for them to apply to the Aby BAC in the future. Please if you go to any shows where they are holding these “reform road-shows” go along and make your feels known. Or write to the Board, at the GCCF Office stating your feelings. Please feel free to contact Steve on any of these or other issues.

GCCF Meeting June 11: Steve Parkin
Posted by Val Spragg on 29-Jun-2011
Most interesting in terms of the Aby: We have a new full judge of Abys, Mrs Maria Chapman-Beer (formerly Miss Maia Chapman) Breed promotions will be relaxed so that rather than waiting for the following June 1st they will come into effect 6 months from Council approving them. A small carrot to those working with the sex-linked series. World Cat Congress 2013 will be held with Cambridge University and the Suffolk and Norfolk CC A special register will be set up to allow overseas cats to compete and there will be a number of overseas judges as well. The question of Judges Reports was raised and comments are welcomed. Please send any feelings you have on this matter to me so I can pass them on to the Judges Guild who are coordinating all suggestions. The other big item on the agenda was the proposals re the new class structure and the Olympian Class. 4 proposals were on the table. The Chair suggested that the two relating to the number of Certificate Classes a cat may enter were put back due to time constraints, the complexity of the proposals and the need for a longer time to see the effects of the recently implemented system. The proposal “The Yorkshire County Cat Club proposes, with immediate effect, an amendment to the structure of the new Olympian Classes, so that in addition to Olympian Certificates awarded at All-Breed Championship shows, one of the five certificates required at each different level of bronze, silver and gold, may be awarded at a single breed show, or at a show which caters for fewer breeds than an all breed show.” Was carried with a very large majority. This means that the ACA WILL have an Olympian class at its shows!!! A similar proposal allowing HPs an Olympian class was also passed. Full details of the meeting: http:www.gccfcats.org/council0611.html any questions please to Steve your delegate.

GCCF Gala Dinner
Posted by Val Spragg on 23-May-2011
Gill, Val and partners enjoyed the GCCF Centenary Dinner at the Belfry on Saturday 21st May. Thankfully no embarrasing photos! Gill was presented with a certificate and Orchid (very difficult to carry around at 2am in the morning) for her professional help in getting the GCCF incorporated.. The evening was well organised and raised in excess of £700 towards the IT refresh project. Thanks go to all that organised the event, supported it and made the whole evening a great night to remember. We have all now recovered from a memorable event. Take a look at the GCCF website further coverage.

Mary was always a popular judge at our shows and was known for her kindness and friendliness to exhibitors. She was always happy to give advice and nothing was too much trouble. She will be greatly missed. Our condolences go to Anne & Brian and the rest of her family

ABAC Seminar
Posted by Val Spragg on 23-Aug-2010
Thank you to everyone who came and supported our breed seminar on Sunday. Thanks are in order for those exhibitors who made the effort and in some cases travelled the length of the UK, to bring their lovely, and in my case not so lovely cats for the seminar. Well done to Mike Shammas and Maria Cummins for having the nerve to get them out of their pens for assessment! When we got home they were in love again. You will all have taken advantage of the lovely lunch provided by Shirley Bullock and Carole Jones and assisted by Margaret Gear. Thanks I must give to Lynda Ashmore for guiding me through organising it, I’m not sure I exactly knew what I was letting myself in for when I agreed to be joint organiser – I won’t fall for that again! Bella Penning came up trumps with their support, so a big thanks to them. Lastly my thanks go to Helen Marriott-Power for coming and giving her time and expertise as a Judge and Mike whom I’m’ sure did not exactly now what he was letting himself in for. Most of all I hope you all had a lovely day, the feed back from Judges and participants has been very positive. Val Spragg

Freda Andrews
Posted by The Hon Sally Plummer on 6-Aug-2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Freda who only recently returned to breeding her famous Sancharma Abyssinians. Freda died on 1 August in Glasgow after being taken there by air ambulance from her home in the Scottish Highlands. Freda's Sancharma Biriani, owned by Caroline Macaulay, was the first female Grand Champion Aby in the United Kingdom. In the last few months she had become a valued contributor on the Yahoo Aby lovers' forum "UnusualAbyCats" and tributes have come from all over the world for her past and present contribution to the breed. Our heartfelt condolences go the Pete and all the Andrews family.
Pam Evely - A tribute by Sally Plummer
Posted by Gill Wilson on 26-Jul-2010
Pam Evely, a founder of the Abyssinian Cat Association and breeder of Abyssinians and Burmese with the Kernow prefix died on 8 July 2010, after a long illness.

Her Abyssinians made a major contribution to the breed in the 1960s and 70s. The popularity of the many colours of Abyssinians, not just the black tabby or ‘Usual’ colour, owes much to Pam and the others in those early days.

Kernow cats are in the pedigrees of many of our Abyssinians today. For example in the UK - Abderus, Abychat, Abyglen, Charriet, Fairport, Glendavan, Highlight, Indasia, Kazizkatz, Khabasha, Koperkat, Larkfield, Makima, Nadua, Nishalka, Norjack, Pontaby, Rintinaby, Sancharma (old and new), Silversmoke, Surfin, Syrinx, Twinkletoes & Wavetail.

They are also represented in the United States through Alexy, Aksum, Cougar Rock, Elamante, Equus, Izod, Pampa & Purssynian, and no doubt in many others worldwide.

I met Pam in 1968 and bought my first Aby from her. If you'd like to see one of her cats, go to www.UnusualAbyCats.com as the front page shows that cat, Kernow Caleti, who died in Australia aged 17. Caleti was from Tranby Red Tutankhamen and Aksum Cleopatra, and was originally to go as a breeding queen to South Africa. However Pam hadn't heard from the potential purchasers for some time so let me have her.

I'll always be grateful to her for starting me off with Abys.

Sally Plummer, Catsmagic Abyssinians in Bath UK. With thanks to Elisabeth Stark, Dushenka Russian Blues & RACCS and Freda Andrews of Sancharma Abyssinians.

Pam Evely
Posted by Gill Wilson on 26-Jul-2010
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Pam Evely on 8th July. Pam was the Abyssinian Cat Association’s founding chairman and a life member of the club. Whilst I personally never knew Pam many of you must have fond memories of her. All tributes should be sent to me at my e-mail address shown on the committee page for inclusion in the club’s magazine due for publication later this year.

Pat Desolla - Indasia Abyssinians
Posted by Val Spragg on 21-Apr-2010
Dave Desolla would like to thank everyone for their kindness at the SHCS on Sunday, he has been overwhelmed by the response in the acknowledgement Pat has received. The funeral has been arranged for 1.45 on the 28th of April at Telford Crematorium, Pat did not want flowers but rather donations to the Rex cat club rescues and Aby rescues; Lynda Ashmore is going to distribute the donations between the relevant clubs, so please make cheques payable to Lynda. Dave is looking for suitable venues to gather after the funeral to be able to celebrate Pat’s life of which her cats where a big part. I am sure everyone will agree that Pat was just as interested in helping the people she met through showing as much as she did the cats.

ACA AGM
Posted by Val Spragg on 5-Apr-2010
The AGM took place during the morning of the Show on 3rd April – a full report will be published to members.

The Officers remain un-changed as the retiring Chairman, Admin Secretary and Treasurer were nominated and elected without opposition. Janet Culley the only committee member due for re-election was re-appointed and a new committee member Maggie Horner was nominated and elected. The existing GCCF delegates were also re-elected. The Committee would like to give a warm welcome to Maggie and hope that you will all give her support during her term of office.

The main topics under discussion were

ACA show – members voted in favour of continuing for the time being as a stand alone show. Subject to hall availability next year’s show will be held at Plumley Village Hall, Knutsford, Cheshire on the 2nd April 2011.

GCCF Incorporation – The Chairman, Gill Wilson explained that she had independently given professional advice to the GCCF regarding their options on Incorporation, explaining that whilst it would not be a cure for their financial difficulties it would allow the separation of the business activities from those of the hobby. Following informed discussion the meeting voted to support GCCF Incorporation at the meeting to be held on the 14th April 2010.

ABAC Seminar - this will be held on Sunday 22nd August at Badsey Recreation Club, Badsey, Evesham WR11 7EU - further details to follow on ACA and ACC circulations. The event is being co-ordinated by Lynda Ashmore and Val Spragg.

ACA Summer Garden Party to be held at the home of Val Spragg, on 20th June 2010, Val lives near Broadway Worcestershire, there are lots of local attractions in the area to make a lovely weekend away. This is an event that was very popular some years ago, for those of you who remember the garden partiies at the home of Elvie Hoyle (Bellapais Abyssinians), they were a great day out - we look forward to seeing you there :-) If you need any accommodation advice please contact Val who may ble to help.

Advertising Warning
Posted by Val Spragg on 9-Jul-2009
It has come to our notice that pets are being advertised, at very low prices, as pedigree "Abyssinians" and are being offered for breeding purposes. Be very suspicious of these adverts as no reputable registered breeder would advertise breeding cats in this way. If you buy from an unscrupulous breeder or dealer your cat may not be registered, may not even be an Abyssinian, may develop disease and may suffer from hereditary weaknesses which would make it totally unsuitable for breeding.

Chocolate and Lilac Abyssinian
Posted by Val Spragg on 3-Aug-2008
The recent application for promotion of the Chocolate and Lilac Abyssinians has been approved by Executive Committee of GCCF and will go to the full meeting of GCCF Council at the October meeting. Hopefully at light at the end of a long tunnel for those dedicated breeders who have worked so hard over the years for this moment.
Committee Update
Posted by Gill Wilson on 29-Jul-2008
The ACA Committee met at the home of Chairman, Gill Wilson on Sunday 27th July on what must have been the hottest day of the year so far. A plentiful supply of cold “alcohol free” beer was available to keep people cool and of course sober. One item on the Agenda was the co-option of Sally Plummer. Sally of course is well known, under her prefix Catsmagic, for her interest and devotion in breeding “Unusual Abyssinians”. The committee unanimously agreed that Sally would be a great asset to the Club and we are sure you will all join us in welcoming her. Sadly we must also announce the resignation of David Brown. David has numerous interests and hobbies and it has become increasingly difficult for him to commit the time he feels is necessary to remain an active member of the committee. He has, therefore, reluctantly taken the decision to stand down. The committee wish him well and hope they will continue to meet him as a valued member of the Club.
